I spent Monday at the dentist which as usual left me feeling anxious and in pain. I have spent a lot of time at the dentist throughout my life and none of it was due to cavities, all due to bone and gum issues. It’s honestly very frustrating. Most of my issues are hereditary but I had some poor behaviours in my 20’s that didn’t help. I have another 5 or so appointments and I should be done! Because of this surgery this week is a recovery week.

The benefit to having a recovery week is I get to study for my new role. I start a new career on Monday and I am thrilled. As I mentioned in my previous post I’ve been struggling with my current job because the market is so difficult to manage. My new role allows me to control where I go and how I approach potential clients. My new title is Western Canada Channel Account Manager. Sounds like a mouthful doesn’t it? I get to work from home for the majority of the time because of technology I can connect with clients remotely. I will have to travel from time to time which is also cool. I won’t be locked into one place just waiting for clients to come to me anymore.

This new beginning is a game changer for my husband and I. He works in the same field and also works remotely. We will be working Monday through Friday, be able to take vacations together easily. Can work from a campsite if we wanted too, as long as we have internet and phone connections.

I’ve never been one to settle, I’ve always pushed towards bettering my life. If a job doesn’t fit I persist until something better comes along. They say your 40’s are the money making years. So let’s go!

Career-Dream Job

I’m sorry I haven’t written yet this week, it’s been a busy one. I had a fairly successful week at work which of course is good. We had an grand opening event at my store. We spent most of last year under renovation and so brought a bunch of influencers to come and see the finished product.

I sell appliances and so our renovation consisted of our showroom being upgraded to show the luxury appliances in kitchens. We have 8 kitchens showing product from Kitchenaid, Bertazzoni all the way up to Subzero and Wolf. I’ve learned a lot about appliances over the last year. It’s funny because everyone uses refrigerators and stoves (proper term is range), BBQ (proper term is grill), dishwashers, ventilation etc. But how many people buy appliances? I wouldn’t have guessed the amount of people that do.

Personally I’ve used whatever was in my home without giving it much thought. Now that I have this knowledge and I know what we would buy once we build or renovate our home.

This knowledge has changed me forever. I did not think that how long food lasts in a fridge had something to do with the fridge. Or the type of detergent used can change the life expectancy of your dishwasher.

Although my job is in sales we consider ourselves product experts. We qualify our clients to find what would work best for their families. Sometimes mixing different brands because of how they work is best then doing a matching package.

Anyway, that what my day job consists of. It’s not bad, it can be cutthroat at times due to all the competition which can be hard. Of course the dream is to work for myself, so I will constantly find ways of doing so. There’s a business Luke and I are looking to get into, we are literally waiting on city hall here to give us the go ahead. I’ll discuss this venture further once we can move forward.

It’s a beautiful day

I’ve been posting on Tuesday normally, but to very honest this week has been a shit show thus far. Waking up at 4 or 5 am just because my body clock says so. Then working in a place that thrives on me being my best self to sell product that people need (sometimes want) with many competitors. The competition slashes prices and undermines what we do. This leads to lost sales often. It’s a cutthroat business.

In my field we call ourselves “product experts” which is an accurate term. Customers come to us to get a pretty substantial knowledge base and then a quote. They take this quote to the “big box” stores who simply offer 10% off the quote because they can. Sometimes the customers just buy there, because of price point. Not really thinking that I spent hours of my time finding out what they need and what works for their family. They don’t realize that I work on commission. They just see a dollar figure. The most frustrating thing is that we price match. I mention this every time I speak with a customer.

I get phone calls or emails stating: “thank you so much for the time and information you gave me, but I found a deal I couldn’t pass up!” These communications infuriate me because we match prices. So why did I spend all this time with you so that you could go and put money in the hands of some massive corporation??!

I mean, I understand that money is tight for a lot of people. Hell, I am one of them. But that is my biggest issue with these big box stores. They just slash prices whilst paying their uninformed employees shit wages and taking money out of the pockets of people who deserve it.

Rant over

Sorry about the rant, but this is my life. I just started in this field of work and I’m frustrated. But it’s a beautiful day and I’m off work today and tomorrow and I will focus on what I actually love.

Two days off

So here I am at the beginning of two days off and thinking how wonderful it is to get up without an alarm. To put a face mask on and have a coffee and write. I have plans for these next two days. I have two paintings to finish, I have weeding to do. Getting my hair done and perhaps a pedicure (its almost toe showing time). We had the most beautiful sunshine rain yesterday and it put me in a cheerful mood. I have always loved rainbows. Even if I am driving and t’s raining and the sun is shining I’m rainbow searching. It’s one of those things that make me smile. Just like seeing flowers blooming, there is something about spring that is inspiring! When you live in a place with actual seasons, you really appreciate the change from brown and grey to bursts of colour. Even the green of the grass makes me happy.

Happy endings

So thats the plan….two days off. No stress, doing what I want to do and enjoying this amazing spring weather. Until next time….
